On Sunday, June 7th, Miss France 1998, Sophie Thalmann, posted a lengthy message on her social media. In a post shared on Instagram, the beauty queen stated that she had made the most difficult decision of her life and reflected on the choice she had to make.

A beauty queen, Sophie Thalmann is one of the faces of the 2000s. In 1998, the 22-year-old won the Miss France pageant. This victory opened doors for her in the world of television, and in 1999, she became a consultant alongside Thierry Roland on the sports program Téléfoot, broadcast on TF1. This national platform allowed her to quickly rise in popularity in France, particularly among football fans. After three years at Téléfoot, she embarked on a new challenge, still on television: the show Combien ça coûte? (How Much Does It Cost?), with Jean-Pierre Pernaut.

A passionate animal lover… and especially a horse
lover. Passionate about animals, she joined the Equidia channel in 2004 for the show “J’ai aimé un cheval” (I Loved a Horse). This format was just the first in a long series, as the model went on to appear in several other shows with the channel: Sophie.club, from 2006 to 2009, Ch’val dire à Sophie (Telling Sophie About Horses), from 2009 to 2017, and Sophie & Co, from 2013 to 2017. There’s no doubt about it, Sophie Thalmann is a huge horse fan.

Proof of this is that in 2023, she and her husband, Christophe Soumillon, dedicated themselves to renovating a 48-hectare estate in Normandy to create an equestrian academy. More precisely, at the Marettes property in Saint-Arnoult, Calvados, near Deauville. An ambitious project that follows on from the Soumillon International Pony Academy (SIPA).

While Sophie Thalmann, who declined to attend the Miss France 2024 ceremony, is a horse lover, she hasn’t forgotten her dogs. With her family, she has adopted several and loves them immensely. This Sunday, June 7th, she shared her grief in an Instagram post, after making a heartbreaking decision, a year after the loss of her dog Jack: “My Harley. I never imagined I would be writing these words today. A few days ago, you couldn’t even get up. Given your age, I thought you had a bit of arthritis, that it would pass… But this morning I had to make the hardest decision, the one we all dread, and say goodbye to you,” she wrote on Instagram.

I never saw you, nor heard you growl at anyone or another dog. You were pure love, the dog everyone dreams of having by their side. Your love of food was your only flaw!”

Unfortunately, faced with her dog’s health problems, she had no other choice but to euthanize him: “You will leave a huge void in my heart and in the house,” she concluded.
